Packing Weekend
...has come to an end.
I spent two days trying to fit my whole life into four suitcases. Impossible. Somehow we managed to move from Poland to Canada in six bags and I can't fit into four.
I'm leaving a lot behind and probably should leave even more. Who knows what my place will look like and if I'll have as much closet space as I did at home. Need to remain positive. Booked my room in a hostel for two nights and within two days I hope to find a place.
So, the first round of packing was everything I wanted to take. Five hours later, reality sets in. It is not happening. Dinner. Second round of packing involved, "Do you need this?" I'm leaving behind my favourite pillow because it just doesn't fit. And these stupid laws of what can and can't be in your carry-on luggage are ridiculous! I still have a bit of packing to do, but it is just last minute things. Things I'm finding as I'm cleaning out my drawers. I can't believe how much I've collected over the years.
But, it is done. Suitcases are sitting in the living room and waiting for Tuesday. In the meantime, if I want clothes (or an umbrella for today) I need to open up a suitcase and go digging. So, this is what it's going to feel like living out of a suitcase at an airport or bus depot.
Now, I'm writing cards, packing gifts & mailing out photos. I still need to write down addresses for stores and keep trying to book viewing appointments.
I called ten places, one right after the other, and out of those, only two are not taken. One has no stove, only a hot plate & no furniture. The other has a very low entrence. Well, I better see them both. Those are my only two appointments. Doesn't sound promising. Only two days left and the panic is sinking in. No excitement. I'm not excited to be leaving.
I am excited about all the goodbye parties & get togethers I'm having. I had an amazing goodbye on Friday. A goodbye to Toronto. The only way you can do it properly is being above the city at nighttime. I love downtown at night. It makes me smile.
