4 + 7 = 13
It is after 1 p.m. in Istanbul.
It is 4 a.m. in Toronto.
I'm wide awake.
My last few days in Istanbul were spent at home lying in bed.
On Saturday, I invited a number of my aquaintances and friends for a little goodbye dinner. I had a little bit of food (rice, only rice) and the pain I felt afterwards was unbearable. I had to lie down. The get together was over.
Sunday was my last minute buying things day. Turkish coffee, backpack, last attempt at a kaftan, scarves. Spent my last money. Now, I am broke.
This was also the first day that I ate my bread sticks and yogurt and didn't feel any stomach pains. I just had dizzy spells.
I packed and in the evening, my roommate had her goodbye party.
Oznur came and she wanted to take me to a really nice coffee place. It is called Kafka's and it literally has Kafka's black stick figure paintings on the walls. I loved the place. The Turkish coffee was amazing and for the last time (while in Turkey) I flipped my cup over to see if the grains would look the same.
For the fourth time, my cup looked the same.
I am having a Turkish coffee party at my place. Going to read everyone's fortune. There will be Turkish delight and halva. I'll see if I can get backlava here.
Monday, I left. It was all over. Said goodbye to my beautiful apartment (that is what I am going to miss the most) and went to the airport.
Got searched, was told only one hand luggage (even though I'm still ill) because British Airways are assholes.
British Airways has made my trip to and from Europe a living hell. I am never flying with them.
I flew with Turkish airlines to Izmir and I cannot believe the service you get! The meal was fantastic, and yes Sun, that was Feta cheese in my sandwhich and fresh cucumber and tomato. Nothing soggy. A one hour flight and you get a meal!
Then on my way back, by accident my flight was booked for the wrong day. The ticket sales lady clicks a couple of buttons and says, here you go, same flight, same seat number, do enjoy! WHAT!? When would British Airways ever do that? They would charge you an extra $1000.
I finally arrived. Really tired. I flew in daytime the whole way. Sunshine shining through the little windows. It was brutal.
Sudoku kept me busy and I watched Wild Hogs and couldn't stop laughing. So funny. Then I watched a British movie (kept remember the title) and tried to sleep.
Now I am here.
Hello Toronto.
Will you be good to me?
