London - Day 1

Wasn't exactly "Zoom"ing to London. The flight was delayed 1:40 minutes and by the time we actually flew out it was 2 hours late.

The seats weren't as uncomfortable as I thought they would be. This was the older plane, so no TV screens in the seat in front. Some movies were being shown, but I was so far back from a screen that there was no point in trying to concentrate on them.

I was so tired and really wanted to sleep. I couldn't. The guy sitting behind me kept hitting my seat. Every time I was on the verge of sleeping taking over me, I get disturbed. And the lady that sat beside me didn't smell so nice.

I only slept in the last hour of the flight. After the lights came on. After we had our breakfast. That is when I dosed off.

I managed to get on a train from Gatwick into London without any problems. Then to my lodgings.

They aren't the greatest. Actually, I don't know if it could get any worse (probably). It is an old stone cottage. (At least that's stunning about this place). I have the front room over looking the street. I'm staying in a suburb called Witham Forest. It is a quaint little town. The second largest Muslim population in London - from my research. Unfortunately, all the rooms I was looking at were within the same northern area. I guess this is where all the students stay. I have five roommates and I got to talk to two of them today. Nice people. We had dinner in the kitchen and MaryAnn told me she has hives from bed bugs. Great. I'm staying in a bed full of bed bugs.

I have a double bed that squeaks every time I move.

My room is freezing cold. I only had the heat put on after I woke up from my desperately needed nap. It is still not warming up!

At least the house is kept clean. Seriously! Everyone cleans after themselves. The washroom is clean. It's the bedrooms that are in rough shape. I have numerous cracks and holes in the wall, which I will have to photograph.

And the best part! There's a toilet in the back! I was told there are two bathrooms here, sure enough, one is at the back of the house after you walk outside. A modern version of an outhouse. It has plumbing.

I'm off to Bristol tomorrow. Early wake up call for me and I'm starting hard with interviews. No fun and games from here on end.

Now, I'm about to put on all the clothes I brought and a jacket and try to keep warm and sleep.

I have a loud ticking clock in the room, just like in the apartment. I am tempted to throw it out the window.
