Skiing
I write this entry with an ice pack on my right knee.
One thing I promised myself was to learn how to ski in the two years that I am out here. Sounded like a great plan - it still sounds like a great plan, so J goes skiing all the time - every weekend he is up in Whistler. And I took the opportunity to go along with him.
Now, I may not look like your typical ski bunny so I didn't exactly have any gear. Hell, I've never owned a sport jacket. He came through and I had a jacket, snow pants, goggles, gloves and called up L's sister to get the rest.
It was a beautiful day. It was partly cloudy and not cold at all. We saw every peak. Wish I didn't forget my camera in the car. Sorry - there are no records of me doing something that is supposed to look like skiing but wasn't exactly perfectly executed. It was more like falling.
I fell about 10 times .. or maybe more. The last one was the worst. I was exhausted and I fell, got caught up in my skis and fell forward on my face. Ouch. Maybe that's why I can't move my right knee. I can't bend it.
J was a great teacher. Patient and all about the technique. He says I did pretty good, but I think he was just cheering me on because he didn't want to carry me down the mountain.
After the beginner's hill - about 4 runs - we headed to the top of Whistler and did the green run 3 times. Had lunch and then went back out again and skied down to the middle of the gondola ride. I was exhausted at this point. All the technique went out the window. I couldn't move anymore. I couldn't wait till we got to the gondola - I got on and he skied to the bottom.
And now, I'm in pain. I can't bend my knee and it hurts to walk.
But, I cannot wait to get out there again. Cannot wait!
