Fall in Vancouver

It's been raining ever since Tara left - over a week now.

The rain came a bit early this year. It's not the typical Vancouver rain either, but pouring, straight rain. I can hear it tapping against my window.

I find myself going outside on my door step and watching the rain drops.

I'm not hating it, yet. But, I do wish it would stop for just a bit. A walk would do me good. The thing I've noticed, Vancouverites do not stop when it rains. The kids in the park still play soccer. People still jog, play golf and pretend it doesn't exist.

I've noticed that when it rains here, that's when Fall begins.

The leaves turn yellow, red, orange. They fall off the trees from the heaviness of the water. They cover the sidewalks and lawns.

When the rain stops, the trees are bare and you know that Vancouver has entered another season.

It stopped raining a bit today. I took out a camera and started to take pictures of all the fallen leaves. They will all be gone soon with the next flood of water.

It's really chilly here and I cannot stand people in Toronto telling me it's 20 degrees and sunny. Yah, yah, I get it. You are affected by climate change.

I also found out that I cannot do much about my SSHRC. I won't get my full scholarships and the payments are going to stop the moment I finish my degree.

But the amazing thing is that this is not getting me down. I've been incredibly strong over the last couple of weeks. My mind and the way I think has changed. I'm positive, nothing gets me down and I always look for an alternative. Changes do not drain me nor does thinking of how to get out of a situation. I'm recovering and I couldn't be happier about my decisions and situation.

I'm writing stories constantly. Thinking of new ones. Looking for a part-time job somewhere. Now, involved in a little web project. That should keep me busy.

And even though I'm gonna have to post-pone my London trip until February, that's fine. I'll manage to get out there to do my interviews for my thesis. So what if it's not in December. That's fine. One step at a time.

I wish I was like this last year, but no one can predict when they'll get ill. You just have to keep going.
