Tropical Toronto

What a wonderful four days.

I call mom to let her know what time my plane lands right before I head out to the airport and she just manages to pick up in time. She interrupted my voicemail message. She just got back from shopping and she's telling me all the food she bought just because I'm coming home. She bought a Turkey. My response: You bought a bird? Since when do we eat Turkey?

Turns out that the family who never celebrates Thanksgiving was the only one who had a Turkey - everyone else had a ham or beef. Sure, they do cook faster, but a bird is a bird.

It was so warm in Toronto. I get off the plane in a jacket and a hat and my parents are in t-shirts. I thought I landed in the wrong city.

Monday was incredible. It was Tropical Toronto. Thirty something degree weather.

Saturday and Sunday was my time with my family. We watched Polish election debates. They know more about the Polish elections than they do about the Ontario. But for the first time ever we were able to sit together and watch it and discuss it. Before it was yelling. Before it was ignorance!

I told them about my plans to work in Poland. I told them about my job offer. My mother supports my decision. This is the perfect time to go, while everyone else is leaving. My dad wants me to be in a safe country. Well, you know, that's not just going to happen.

Monday I had a pleasant surprise. Gordon came over to have breakfast with me. It was so nice talking to him. He just gets me. After all there's so much history between us. He was there texting when I was in the hospital just on Monday. He was the one who has never left my side. I couldn't believe he actually warned me that he was running a bit late. The old Gordon would have never done that. I was still in bed when he did that. I thought he was joking. So here I run to the bathroom to shower.

Then I went to meet Andrew. We walked all the way from his place to Lakeshore. Such a beautiful and hot day! I knew I should have brought sandals.

It was a bit cooler by the lake and it was so good again to be in the presence of a friend who could finish your sentences and knows exactly who you are. We laughed, joked, hugged. It was just ideal.

Then we tried to watch the movie Rent. I have always wanted to see the musical. But, we both have no idea what happened in the movie. After the first few songs we lost total interest. Ask me what happened and I will tell you there was fire. That's all I remember. I just got Andrew to play some of his songs from his CD. Couldn't be there for the concert, so I had a private one! woohoo!

It was pretty late at this point, but walking along Bloor, we both ended up close to Laurel's house! So, why not. I had to see the wifey.

Tuesday was pretty much the same. Shopping with mom in the morning. Followed by Poker and wine with Tim at noon. Followed by a visit to TP.com in the afternoon. So many people have left. There was really no one there to visit for me. Followed by dinner with Jonathan (Thai food! woohoo) and then we sat at the Dundas Square and had a great conversation.

This was followed by drinks at Seven with Laurel and Adnan. He is in Toronto for a month and it was so nice to be able to see him. We met in Istanbul, now Toronto, who knows where we will bump into next. He told us all about his documentary, which is going to be screened at the Anatolian film festival in Turkey. Congrats! Huge congrats!

Then Wednesday it was off to Vancouver. That's it. The ideal dream was gone. The food was gone and now I should cook.

But the good news is that Tara just landed in Vancouver and she shall be at my place in half an hour! A visitor.

Maybe I should do some work. Nah.
